A step forward

An important article, the result of intense collaboration over the past months among the various partners of the LIFE Pinna project, has been published in the esteemed scientific journal Ecology and Evolution. Titled “Handling of the Bivalve Pinna nobilis, Endangered and Pathogen-Affected Species, for Controlled Reproduction: Precautions Taken”, the article focuses on protocols for transporting, maintaining, and breeding two species from the Pinnidae family: Atrina fragilis and Pinna nobilis.

To define these protocols, preliminary testing on the species Atrina fragilis, closely related to P. nobilis but not endangered, was crucial. Atrina fragilis was used as a model species. The same protocols were later applied to Pinna nobilis, enabling researchers to achieve significant results in the management and reproduction of this critically endangered and protected species.
