Treasure hunt in Bogliasco
On 12 July in Bogliasco, in the province of Genoa, adults and children went on a “hunt” for fins. As part of the Posidonia Green Festival, LIFE Pinna partners Arpal and Triton Research organised a Citizen Science activity, a treasure hunt to raise awareness among ordinary citizens about the ecological importance of Pinna nobilis. Daniele Grech, marine biologist at the IMC International Marine Centre Foundation, guided the public, aged 10 and above, with masks and snorkels to the seabed off Bogliasco beach in search of some “special” specimens of Pinna nobilis, specifically 3D fins created by SciFabLab of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Miramare (TS), which had been hidden on the seabed of the bay.
Meanwhile, researchers from the Centro del Mare, the Regional Agency for the Protection of the Ligurian Environment, illustrated the LIFE Pinna project to Festival visitors and demonstrated the use of the ROV (remotely operated vehicle), a state-of-the-art underwater robot for exploring the seabed, which is very useful for the project’s activities.
