The marine restoration

As part of the collaboration between LIFE Pinna and LIFE REEForest, a webinar/training session dedicated to the marine restoration of an important endangered species such as 𝑃𝑖𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑛𝑜𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑠 and the marine forests created by brown macroalgae of the genus Cystoseira, which are crucial for maintaining biodiversity in the Mediterranean seabed. The online meeting, entitled ‘𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑢𝑟𝑜 𝑚𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑜: 𝑑𝑢𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑠𝑖 𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑖𝑜”, involved numerous operators working in sector bodies and Marine Protected Areas to describe in detail the potential of restoration actions and to encourage the replication of actions and species monitoring. Valentina Pitacco from NIB (National Institute of Biology of Slovenia), Maria Paola Ferranti from the University of Genoa and Saul Ciriaco from Shoreline presented their work for LIFE Pinna on larval collectors, the maintenance and reproduction of Pinna nobilis in a controlled environment, and transport and transplantation activities, respectively. Ciriaco then detailed the monitoring of marine forests and restoration activities carried out as part of LIFE REEForest.
